Radiant Barriers: A Quick Update
I ventured up to my attic the other day to seal up all of the holes in the ceiling below.
When I went up into the attic I brought a thermometer.В I thought that it would be a good opportunity to check the effectiveness of the radiant barrier insulation since is was about 35В° and cloudy outside.В I thought that it would warm, but I was a little surprised that it was 58В° up there.
This means that the attic insulation only has to overcome a 10В° temperature difference in stead of a 30В° temperature difference.В This translates (and has for the past two years) into big savings on our heating and cooling bills.
Just a little evidence as to how well radiant barriers work.
